The MindScout Parent Dashboard: Track CAT4 Preparation in Real Time
Preparing your child for the CAT4 test can feel like navigating in the dark. How much has your child practised? Are they improving? Which batteries need attention? And the question every parent really wants answered: will they reach the score their target school requires?
The MindScout Parent Dashboard answers all of these questions in a single view. It transforms raw practice data into clear, visual insights that help you make better decisions about how to spend your child's preparation time. Below, we walk through every section of the dashboard so you know exactly what to expect.
Activity Overview
The top row of the dashboard shows four key metrics at a glance. These update automatically after every practice session, so you always have an up-to-date picture of your child's engagement.

Day Streak
3.5h
Weekly
- Tests — the total number of practice tests completed this month. Consistent practice (at least 3–4 sessions per week) is the strongest predictor of score improvement.
- Avg Score — the average accuracy across all tests taken this week, shown as a percentage. This gives you a quick sense of whether your child is maintaining or improving their performance.
- Day Streak — consecutive days with at least one completed session. Research shows that short, daily practice is far more effective than longer, infrequent sessions.
- Weekly Time — total time spent on practice this week, combining both full exams and targeted practice sets.
Stanine Gauge
The stanine gauge is the centrepiece of the dashboard. It shows your child's current predicted stanine based on their practice performance, alongside their target stanine set during onboarding.

7–9
Above Avg
The gradient bar runs from stanine 1 (far left) to stanine 9 (far right). The dark marker shows where your child currently sits; the glowing yellow marker shows the target. The colour bands beneath provide a quick reference for what each stanine range means.
Our stanine predictor achieves 96% accuracy when a student has completed at least three full practice sessions. For a deeper explanation of how stanine and SAS scores work, see our CAT4 scores explained guide.
Battery Breakdown
The CAT4 tests four distinct cognitive batteries. Each card below shows the current accuracy percentage and the number of tests completed for that battery. This breakdown is critical because it reveals exactly where your child is strong and where they need more focused practice.
Verbal
Reasoning
8 tests completed
Quantitative
Reasoning
6 tests completed
Non-Verbal
Reasoning
7 tests completed
Spatial
Ability
5 tests completed
In this example, Non-Verbal Reasoning (90%) is the strongest battery, while Spatial Ability (68%) has the most room for improvement. MindScout uses this data to automatically adjust the practice mix — serving more spatial questions until the score improves, then rebalancing to maintain overall growth.
Each battery is colour-coded consistently throughout the app: blue for Verbal, green for Quantitative, amber for Non-Verbal, and purple for Spatial. This makes it easy to spot patterns at a glance, whether you are looking at the dashboard, practice reports, or the question types overview.
Admission Probability
If you have set target schools during onboarding, the dashboard displays an estimated admission probability for each school. These percentages are calculated from your child's current predicted stanine and the historical score requirements we track for each school.
Admission Probability
The probabilities update after every practice session, so you can watch them climb as your child improves. This feature is especially valuable for families applying to multiple schools with different score thresholds.

Personalised Tips
At the bottom of the dashboard, MindScout surfaces a personalised improvement tip based on your child's latest performance data. Rather than generic advice, these tips are specific to your child's current strengths and weaknesses.
Personalised Improvement Tip
Emma's spatial ability (68%) has the most room for growth. Focus 2–3 extra practice sessions per week on spatial reasoning to reach stanine 7. MindScout will automatically adjust her practice mix to prioritise spatial questions.
Tips are generated by our Atlas AI engine, which analyses performance patterns across all four batteries, identifies the area with the highest improvement potential, and recommends a concrete action — such as adding extra practice sessions in a specific battery or reviewing a particular question type.
